Weight Loss Management
Peptide Injections
GLP-1 is a human-based glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist prescribed as an adjunct to a reduced caloric intake and increased physical activity for chronic weight management in adults with an initial body mass index (BMI) that is considered outside a healthy range. Administration of this medication is not intended for medical conditions other than obesity. Medical conditions should be managed by your primary physician and your physician should be made aware that you are using this peptide. A change in lifestyle long term will allow patients to use GLP-1 to reduce their weight to a healthy level. Calories consumed should be high in nutrients, fibrous diet (vegetables and low glycemic fruits) and high protein intake for healthy clients. This will assist with fat loss vs. a loss of lean mass. Lean mass is preferable for metabolic health and bone density. You should also pay special attention to proper hydration, consuming about ½ your weight in oz. of water daily.
You can set yourself up for success by ensuring you are ready for not only weight loss but also long-term weight management by considering the following questions:
1.) Are you motivated?
Successful weight management depends on eating healthy, highly dense nutritional foods that are lower in calories. Making good choices will give you the fuel to run your body, reducing fatigue and brain fog. And include physical activity in your routine – at least 30-60 minutes daily. Preferable full body resistance training to maintain or increase lean muscle mass.
2.) Do you have a realistic picture of how much weight you’ll lose and how quickly?
Aim to lose 1-2 pounds a week which means burning 500 to 1,000 calories more than you consume each day through diet and exercise. You might lose weight more quickly if you change your habits significantly. However, be careful, radical changes that aren’t sustainable are less likely to be effective over the long term. Adding in long term lifestyle changes like strength building either with weights or resistance will improve your ability to maintain weight and build your ‘metabolic spanx’ which acts as support for your bones and organs.
3.) Do you have support and accountability?
While you are coming to our clinic, you’ll have accountability and support at weigh in. A great tool is to start tracking what you eat. You’d be surprised how many things we eat without thinking about it – we can make better choices if we take the time to consider options. You can't manage what you don't monitor. It’s also important to have someone in your corner for support outside of the clinic– so grab a friend and go for a walk.
